Note to volunteers-NE on 4th March

Dear Volunteers,

I am extremely sorry that I am breaking the diktat of not speaking to anyone outside on what transpired in the National Executive meeting, yesterday. Generally, I am a disciplined soldier of the party.

Arvind used to say that when they were coming out of the joint draft committee meeting of the Lokpal in 2011, Kapil Sibal used to ask them not to reveal anything to the outside world. Arvind used to answer that it was his primary duty to inform the nation about the proceedings, as he was not a leader but a representative of the people. Truth and transparency was all that he had.

My presence in the National Executive is only as a representative of the volunteers. And I would be dishonest to accept the gag order. The volunteers cannot be removed from the equation; they are the source of the party. Rather than get information from selective leaks and stray statements, I have decided to give some factual details of the meeting in the public domain.

Last night I was told that disciplinary action would be taken against me, if I revealed anything. So be it – my first allegiance is to the higher truth. Here is an essence of the meeting with regards to removal of YY and PB, based on my understanding. I would request NE to release the minutes of the meeting.

Short background
During the Delhi campaign, Prashant Bhushan had threatened multiple times that he will hold press conference against the party, because of his concerns on candidate selection. Some of us were successful in somehow or other to stave off the threat till the elections. It was alleged that Yogendra Yadav was conspiring against Arvind and some evidences were produced. There were also operational irreconcilable differences and trust deficit between AK, PB and YY

On 26th Feb night when members of the NE went to meet him, Arvind conveyed that he will not be able to work as Convenor, if these two members were part of the PAC. That was the background of the NE on 4th March.

NE meeting
Yogendra said that he understood that Arvind did not want them in PAC, as it was difficult to him to work together. He and Prashant would be happy to stay out of PAC, but they should not be singled out. Two formulas were put forward by him.

·         That the PAC be reconstituted and new PAC members be elected through voting. PB and YY will not put their candidature.

·         That PAC continue to function in the present form and YY and PB would not attend any of the meetings.

The meeting broke for some time and Manish and others conferred with the Delhi team of Ashish Khetan, Asutosh, Dilip Pandey and others. After reassembling, Manish proposed a resolution that YY and PB be removed from the PAC and it was seconded by Sanjay Singh.

I abstained to vote, because of two contrary reasons

1. Arvind needs a smooth working in the PAC. So, I agreed that PB and YY may be out of PAC and take some alternate important roles.

2. I was taken aback by the resolution of removing them publicly, especially as they themselves were willing to leave. Also, this decision to sack them was against the overwhelming sentiments of volunteers from all over the world.

So, while I agreed that they can step down from the PAC, the manner and intention behind the resolution was not acceptable. Hence, the decision to abstain.

The other details may come when the minutes of meeting is released.

This is not a revolt, nor is this some publicity ploy. I will not go to the press. There may be some repercussions overt and covert against me. So be it.

Jai Hind

Love

Mayank Gandhi

Look Gentlemen, we, voters have selected you guys to do some good work and not be fight amongst you for the seat. If you falter this time, then you should not even think of contesting the elections again. This is Janta's faith in you so pls maintain this and resolve your differences in closed doors.

When sea was churned, poison came out first and therafter the nectar. and greater/ deeper the churning, the poison becomes more and more harsh and unpalatable/ intolerable. But remember friends, that this removal of poison by churning is necessary to make way for arrival of nectar. Dont get offended by the poison. It is a pre-requisite for getting nectar.

Now I understand why Post of Maharashtra Convenor was offered to YY. They cornered you all and you all didn't stay togather. Thus all the founder members and people from Aandolan are breaking away one by one. Your behaviour shows nothing to loose mindset which is good but power hungry gang came back in action as soon as they got power.

Whatever happened is saddening. I personally think we need YY and PB kind of people in PAC and everywhere where questions needs to be asked. Thanks Mayank for coming out otherwise we volunteers wldn't have known what has happened in NE.
As a AAP supporter, volunteer and donor I want all future meetings to be hold in public and not behind the towering doors of a farm house.

Truly said. When AAP was not in power they were united, but when they regained the power then internal rift started. People are insecured and wanted to cement their positions and hence arises the differences and trusts.

I do not hold only these people as an isolated case. This is a trait of our Indian race, we never let another Indian grow . If these people are really committed to the people, they should not care about what happening in the party but just focus on the good work for the people

Now it appears to be something beyond Chanda and Selection of Candidates. AK is playing in the hands of ghost companies who funded the election.

Dear Mayank - I appreciate your standing in this regard. Having said you should have casted your mandate for or against YY/PB. Yoy make your self abstain from your duty, but completely declared whatever happened in the meeting and voting in writing and posted onpublic domain. This is unprecedented.

I too not agreeing of removal of PB / YY publicaly when they have agreed for not contesting if re and fair election takes place. Here in this part Arvind / Manish both senior members are absolute wrong.

Suggestion - dissolve PAC and NE immediately. Form a Central Standing Committee including all senior and founder members headed by Arvind or Yogendra Yadav and anoher State Standing Committe headed by respective states founder snd snior member.

Thi will end all ambiquities.

Hundreds of volunteers are disturbed, feel cheated & are convinced that AK has damaged the ideology & party-image.
But...
I have a fear, same volunteers who are blaming AK today will change their opinion when AK will go public (after 10 days or so). I am sure this is going to happen because whenever AK speaks, they are mesmerized. They will agree with AK & will start blaming YY/PB.

This is a big problem in AAP. AAP volunteers are blind followers of AK. Unless the start thinking, the processes in AAP will not improve...

Success is sweet but spoiler too if it goes to head. AAP has suffered the same. After Loksabha election's wipe out, the party came together because crisis bring people together.I foresee an unavoidable split sooner or later in AAP.

Sir, as the Sanskrit adage goes, Truth protects the Truthful (Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah). Unfortunately, I think the rot began way back after the first Delhi election that AAP participated in. At that time itself Prashant Bhushan had made the case for standing by the mandate, which was for AAP to sit in the opposition, and to support the BJP on issues. This was the honest reading of that split mandate with advantage BJP. But his views did not find currency in the party.

Subsequently, several individuals and instances revealed the autocratic mindset of Arvind Kejriwal, but not enough was done to curb his clout and make the party paramount. This again showed a lack of allegiance to truth.

However, if truth above all is indeed your philosophy and your party's, this is a great moment to do a complete overhaul of the thinking and mindset.

I have been a volunteer in AAP NRI chapters from the beginning. What you are seeing is nothing new.We went through exactly the same Many times over even when we were only a handful.

What Helped us:
**************

1)Time : Give it Time. Over Time people will be able to see things in Right perspective.

2)Most successful and Active volunteer should be given upper hand.So in this case AK should be given upper hand.

Comments :

1)Arvindji has done a True Bhagoda by running away to Bangalore. His offer of Resignation now seems Hypocritical from what you say.

2)Prashantji and Yogendra Yadav should win elections and prove their practicality.

3)Highly appreciate the passion of
Ashish, Pandey, Ashutosh etc but they have to prove their Public Facing skills.

4)And you have to prove your Crisis management and Negotiation Skills instead of the kid shouting 'nange maharaj'

5)and we volunteers should first learn to speak up and demand accountability and transperancy within the party before dreaming of reducing corruption in India.

I am glad that Mayank Gandhi decided to uphold the higher truth. Many people are powerless because they do not want to achieve or retain power at the cost of truth. As such your action is a step forward in bringing character back to the practice of politics in this country. If this means sitting out of power and having to work more to achieve swaraj, so be it.

There is absolutely no need to be disappointed. It is in a way better that the realization of the dangers and challenges ahead has happened at this early stage.

It may be your courage, but now it's absolutely meaningless- an afterthought.
You could have voted against the proposal.
Person who was giving advise not to be 'Ahankari', himself has become bigger than the party.
I doubt to call it a party at all- it's a group convened by Kejriwal, those who are not comfortable with him are being thrown out.
It seems AK is much more concerned for his posh big big bungalow and CM's kursi... also the kursi of the convener.

Thanks MG. I am not a volunteer but I have been voting for AAP and more importantly have been a positive voice in my surrounding for promotion of AAP. Hush hush details available yesterday made me very uncomfortable. Details given by you, if true, speaks of unreasonable treatment to YY and PB on behest of AK. Is he really becoming AKxx which kills those not accepting a particular thought process? Time will only tell. We still hope, AK will move one step forward and embrace one time assets of party. Both YY and PB are priceless in their domain. It is prudent not to loose them.

I have been following up with more than 1000 comments and opinion of AAP members and and well wishers From this date I am very sure that more than 90% opf its members and Well wishers wanted #unitedAAP and they were totally against expelling Mr Prashan Bhuan and Mr Yogendra Yadav.

Millions of People were attracted to this party is no just because of Arvind Kejarwal but clearly because of it ideology and principle of Democracy and Swaraj" The action by PAC is against its basic values and principles. Where is Swaraj and Democracy when you acted against the wished of 90% its volunteers or members?.

I was not disappointed when we failed in Lokshaba Election because we kept our principle intact and i was sure that one day we would be successful in Delhi as well as in many states. But Today I lost hope in AAP and there will be many like me in India and Abroad who wanted to see a clean politics in India.

Mayankji, I commend you for taking a stand against the irrational behaviour of some AAP leaders and for writing this piece. Congratulations! I am quite hopeful that the flow of this new volunteer energy that AAP has tapped till now, will guide the future course of action with wisdom and sheer momentum. It is time to recollect what Arvind has said repeatedly - "Arvind is not important, but the cause 'transparent and honest politics' - is important". I believe the momentum will back the cause and not the leader acting as a silent spectator. Am proud of the AAP community for standing up and showing that it is a party with a difference. To the best of my knowledge, never before have members of a party expressed themselves so fearlessly against the perceived wrong perpetrated by its leader.

First thing first, Hats off to you for standing up for your conscience. Writing a blog despite a gag order is absolutely the right thing to do. Rest of the PAC members, please decide whether you want to remain true to the idea/creation of AAP or you would like to start transforming towards being "Politician". My humble message to them is "AAP is a political party with a completely different ideologue" and hence stop behaving like a usual politician for whom a party diktat, political compulsions are bigger than truth/conscience. Support base for AAP comes from its ideology. The moment you start shifting from this ideology, and start compromising, please remember that there are other political parties in India that are Masters/Champs in that area and you will be left nowhere.
coming to the point of removing PB and YY from PAC, to me, this is the saddest day since the creation of AAP. While resigning as CM and spreading too fast too thin for Lok Sabha elections were strategic mistakes (right intention but wrong moves), this one appears malicious (Absolutely wrong intent and perhaps wrong move). Of course, going to media / leaking letters were mistakes by YY & PB, but let's not be too myopic in our view. Has anyone cared to explain why did they have to do this when these could easily have been discussed face to face.

Dear AK, you are a SuperHero. Given the SUPER HIGH entry barrier we have in our country to get into politics, what you have done/achieved is beyond comprehension/imagination. In my lifetime, I cannot claim to have seen anyone whose achievement comes closer to what you have achieved. Having said that, I am completely shocked to see your approach towards this crisis. I really hope that you will come clean on this (by clean, I mean true to your conscience) and if needed, get this resolved. Yes, I am stating "Resolved" because while a decision might have been taken as of now, this is not necessarily resolving the issue as you can see from the reaction of this blog.
While I have been ardent supporter of AAP, I myself find in a position, wherein I cannot defend this decision in front of my friends, colleagues.

AAP internal conflict could and should have been handled better. Entire PAC could have resigned and reconstitution could have been done. Strictures could have been passed against Yadav and Bhushan without sacking them. New roles could have been given. Better wiser leadership was needed. Kejriwal! Your struggle has been great and determination rock solid. But you have failed in wiser compassionate leadership. Not a good sign for a party which is supposed to be a trend-setter and a leader who has a historic role.

While for winning elections in an electronic media era, focusing on one leader is a great catchy idea, the purpose of democratic politics is not that. And one man, one post MUST be the credo of all democratic parties. If we are to say that AK as convener is must for unity of the party, in spite of you being the Delhi CM, then where is the difference with Congress claim of Gandhi family leadership is must for the unity of the party.

We really need to think deeper.

Yadav and Bhushan may be rigid on some issues, may have committed mistakes, and may have over-reached at times. To err is human. But there are immense contributions of the intellectual and political strategist face of AAP and the legal face of AAP (Bhushan's PILs and exposes have actually created the initial image of AAP).

Your group may have won in PAC, but the larger number of supporters and volunteers in India and beyond are surely not looking at this with appreciation.

Strictures could have been passed. The two leaders could have expressed regrets on their omissions and commissions. AK resignation as Convener should have been accepted as well.

Cannot think of AAP PAC without Yadav and Bhushan. I am COMPLETELY aware of the struggles and public leadership abilities of you, AK, in comparison to the two leaders. BUT they are NECESSARY for AAP and even YOU to have that moral sheen. A leader is known by the way he resolves conflicts and makes the best use of each and every other leader for the greater cause.

You have also made the position of Admiral Ramdam compromised in some way or the other.

Deeply hurt. Will support AAP for sure. As of now. Will continue speaking, funding, writing in favour of AAP. Yet. But not surely a good sign.

My earlier FB post BEFORE the AAP NE meeting was:

All of us, who support the beautiful experiment towards transparent people-driven politics of AAP, have been watching in dismay the public display of animosity among the top leaders of AAP for some time now after the Delhi win. I would not be happy noting that this is just a personality clash. While personalities are involved, this is also about basic approach and the AAP differentiator of transparency, decentralization and honesty in politics. Hence, I would welcome Kejriwal resigning from Party Convenorship and focus completely on Delhi governance, apart from being the face of AAP in general. While a Presidium of three or five AAP leaders take up the task of expansion of AAP across the nation: people like Yogendra Yadav, Sanjay Singh, Mayank Gandhi (Maharashtra) and Prithvi (Karnataka). Prashant Bhushan to continue as the adviser and legal face of AAP, Shanti Bhusan as Mentor. Collective transparent leadership will take AAP to heights bringing in a better political culture in the country. Alternatively, AK can continue as Convenor in the short run, and Co-convenors be made of these suggested leaders. And Prashant Bhushan can be in the Internal Lokpal along with Admiral Ramdas. Yadav may be given additional task or organizing the farmers.

1. If Mr. AK was busy with the schedule work, he would have called the meeting late night?

3. Is his story of heath was more important than the life and growth of the AAP?
4. is this called transparency , accountability , equality etc
5. Can't Aam admi ask questions? What was wrong?

Thanks Mayank ji for sharing this. AAP is a party of volunteers. AK thinks he is bigger than the party and volunteers are his blind followers. He is soooo wrong. We are with the party because of its ideology and people like YY and PB who try their best to upkeep that, not because of only AK.

Dear AK, you lost the opportunity of a lifetime to do something big and make yourself immortal. Alas, you turned out to be a really small, helpless soul which could not even get over the ego of being the sole owner of the AAP. Anyway, I am hopeful that many true leaders would emerge out of this churning; AK was fake, so he did not last long. Good for volunteers, good for the nation.

Has Mr. Arivind Kejriwal become Arvind Gandhi of Congress breed? Has AAP become another Con-gress party with Arvind Kejriwal becoming Arvind Gandhi in the mould of Rahul Gandhi with a the coterie of Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Ashish Khetan, Asutosh, Dilip Pandey etc.? All of these people are good people and very capable in their field but don't they feel ashamed that now they have just become 'Yes Man' team of one man now called Arvind Gandhi. Doe this Mr. New Gandhi think that he and his team are The AAP Party? What about all those lakhs of volunteers and thousand of donors who gave up their money, their precious time, their mental and physical efforts to raise an alternative and different political system to the NJP and Con-gress? Di Mr. New Gandhi ask all these people without publicly humiliating and throwing out two very important founding members of AAP party movement? Does thins New Gandhi Clan think that AAP party is their BAAP KI BAPOTI that they can do anything that they like as per their wishes? Does Mr. New Gandhi think that the New Delhi elections were won because of him or his coterie? It is very far from the truth for those who understand politics. BJP lost because of its own doing not so much as AAP won, even if it got 67 seats! There are many reasons for the BJP defeat and one of the main is that it became Ghamndi just like what Mr. New Gandhi has become. If Mr. PB and Mr. YY are ambitious then so are Mr. New Gandhi and his team of chaploos coterie. But what about the rightful issues that both of them raised? Why were they not discussed in the NE? People demand answers to those rightful issues from Mr. New Gandhi and his coterie. If Mr. New Gandhi and his chamchas have any guts them they should give answers to the public and the Delhi voters on the issues raised by PB and YY. Otherwise this is the beginning of the end of AAP as a party. I am not from Delhi and I was think of joining this party in my state but it seems it will be better to join the BJP or the Con-gress if I have to become a royal chamcha like Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Ashish Khetan, Asutosh, Dilip Pandey!!!

In the middle of all this tamasha, AAP is becoming a complete waste of an opportunity. This victory of AAP in Delhi is gong very much as per the script of BJP's Yediyurappa's victory in Karnataka. Just as Yediurappa could not manage the mandate and bungled it, albeit for his own petty gains, AAP and Kejriwal are bungling the massive mandate in Delhi, for personal egos. As an everyday Indian it pains to see opportunities lost like this. It is difficult to get such opportunities and once we get it we should make the most of it. All factions, divisions, parties in AAP should unite immediately to make use of the opportunity. Don't disappoint us this time. For we may lose hope of any future opportunities coming our way. From anywhere in anything.

Dear Mayankbhai,

Thanks for showing honesty, at least in public forum, for sake of millions (?) of volunteers.

I have different opinion for AK since he became CM for the first time. Following are the reasons for that belief.

The mindset of people especially Delhi is the main reason for this AK 47 to become so rude & self-centric. Every one wants free light, power, roads, wi-fi & countless things which were mentioned in AK's manifesto. He has smartly analyzed this weakness of every Indian weather poor or middle class. Being an educated person & very good orator, he has smartly publicised his so called new ideology to become a hit politicians. Some very intellect persons like YY, Mira Sanyal...... & others fell in this trap with a hope to cultivate or remove corruption from this huge nation. (Dear friends when we have people working in govt. offices with the same mindset of getting everything free, how one govt. within five years can stop corruption?). Delhi people has set wrong precedent for the wrong person. We all should understand the people of Delhi made mistake last year. But they have done overwhelming mistake again this year. This people are according to me fools.

Yesterday's episode one more stamp to my belief for AK.

I am sure, we are due to witness many more dramas from AK for next five years.

I request all those emotional volunteers to come back on earth & focus on regional issues instead of dreaming of becoming change agents for this country.

And all along he himself has been the driving force to drive out YY and PB.
Machiavellian !!

AAP is slowly moulting into a new (or should i say old) character under AK... Power truly corrupts and thus corrupts stay in power. True people are sidelined. History oft repeats itself.

Its just another political party on the anvil. And that's going to be the biggest bane of AAP. Nothing is special about AAP anymore.

Many things can be sorted out by being dictator but what about the very principles of transparency, free speech etc. that you advocated earlier on the basis of which you got public support in all possible ways.............. If you really think you are convener in true sense, use your authority to induct them back. .............. sorry to say that AAP, if continues like the same, will be just another "creature of this political duldul". Dear Mayank,I m not AAP supporter and even wellwisher because I have seen rise & fall of Janta Party at the prime of my youth. Before making my decesion I wanted to judge this party for some time.Sorry to say till time it has not lived up to my expectations. In Janta Party the peoples were from different ideologies such as socialists/nationalists/capitalists with out side suuport of communists and every ideology was having corrupt and honest both type of persons. The party of AAP made on the single point base of honest politics and people with all ideologies kept on joining. On the first look it seemed that your party will abolish corruption and you got thumping majority in Delhi. Now in Delhi it is not clear how to move forward with Socialism/ Capitalism/Communism.Since AAP is having leaders from all streams so their Ideas r clashing. One ideology want to dominate another.Secondly your party is supported by lot of foreign funded NGOs.These NGOs act as per the wishes of foreign institutions who fund these NGOs.These foreign instituions dont want to see the development in INDIA different institutions are having different goals. So different NGOs want to pull APP to different direction. Now untill and unless AAP does not address issues of Ghost Funding/internal democracy of the party for example if some one raised some issues then voting should have been done on the issues not to oust the persons who raised the issues. The party which talks of SWARAJ and giving power even to MOHALLA SAMITIS how can act like this.My sincere advise is to clear ideology to move forward if you abuse AMBANI/ADANI then also clarfy who,how and why he has given u fund. And shut the doors of party to foreign funded NGOs.Come clear on every blame.

Mr. Mayank Gandhi,
Every organization have some rules and regulations to follow, one of which is discipline. you all need to be disciplined. this way of writing the inside story of your party is really bad on your part.
Did you guys hear anything about BJP, congress like this...
people may say that you need to be transparent, but all these inside stories are not required, this was not required. this is damaging the image of the party and..you are responsible for this. have some guts and say these things in the meeting and not on blogs.
what are you trying to prove here...

anyways...even if people say AAP is arvind alone party...be it....you all are today at this position just because of Arvind Kejriwal...yes the support was there from volunteers but still every one knew that they are voting just because Arvind is CM candidate....
trust me in 90% cases in Delhi, people didnt knew or bothered to know who was AAP candidate in their locality, the vote was only and only for Arvind Kejriwal...

I even doubt you....you are against Arvind because you are based out of Mumbai and you may have some plans of expansion in Mumbai and you can be a CM...but please....not everyone can be Arvind Kejriwal...you need to work hard for this....and trust me...you are working hard...but still you need some maturity in you...

Thank you Mayank Gandhi for sharing this post. Hope you keep us informed of other development. After all this party belongs to the Aam Admi and they have every right to know the truth. Your blog is very straight and I like it. Keep it up.

Thanks,Mayank.
I appropriate your spirit and honestly, pained from the way Arvind and Team behaved with fonder pillars of AAP. unfortunately, I am one of the donor, a stern follower and terrible supporter of this team because of its transparency and approach. I had some hunch about his attitude but never imagined that it will be so high that he wouldn't mind destroying pillars of his own team.

Can't the NE members capable to imagine that such decision will destroy the volunteer's base which is associated due to values which AAP propagates and which it had created so laboriously in past 2 years. It was this lot only- not these office-bearers who made AAP to come up so heavily in Delhi. Can these self-proclaimed pillars(?) see that 'how much damage they have done to Party'!

And how about if this decisions bounces back and disillusions people at large as the 'decision of Delhi resignation' did last time. Afer all, opposition wouldn't let such opportunity go! And, IS IT THE VALUE, ARVIND WAS TALKING ON OATH-CEREMONY DAY?????????

It is confusing whether you are in favour of their removal or not. You have brought out Bhushans anti-party activities and YY's conspiracy against Kejriwal which justifies their removals. I think you are justifying their removal but have played with your words.

Although I am not a member of AAP but I keep a very close eye on all the events of AAP.

I have simple question for Mr. Mayank Gandhi is that if Arvind did the wrong then you should have accepted his resignation as the convener post.

1.Why did you or NEC not accept Arvind resignation???

2. When we saw on TV that YY tried to malign AAP by giving inside information to reporters at breakfast meeting then how is YY is innocent???

3. When Mr. Shanti Bhushan did openly support to Ms. Kiran bedi during the election and Mr. Prashant Bhushan tried to balckmail AAP and AK before the Delhi elections then how come Mr. Prashant is innocent???

4. If Mr. Prashant or Mr. Yogendra Yadav had little bit of any kind of grace then they should have resigned from the PAC for the larger cause of AAP. I have seen Mr. Yogendra yadav on TV since my childhood during election results and I liked him very much but AAP is not for political games but I dont like Mr. Prashant who made the comments on Kashmir and being an Indian Muslim, I am proud that Kashmir is an integral part of India and will remain so forever.

AK is the pure opportunist. He Leveraged Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi, Shazia, Shanti Bhushan, Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, and systematically removed all of them to become a dictator. Delhi will suffer because of this dictator. At least now, if people realize his ture colour they can avoid further damage to the nation by him.

FYI, I sat on first fast at Jantar-Mantar, my number in register there was around 336. In LOK SABHA election, a builder from Ahmedabad was given AAP-ticket who never participated in any volunteer event prior to getting ticket! He was a stranger. The ticket was issued based on money power and parents association with Congress not on moral ground. I raised flag on this - but all in vein. But that experience gave me everything. Events these days speak of my firsthand observations.

Please can AAP stick together and not voice your internal squabbles over absolutely unimportant (internal) matters to all the world. This Govt and especially the Leadership under Arvind Kejriwal has won the complete "Majority" in Delhi and needs to be respected to the utmost. By not standing together as a Team and some pompous self-righteous individuals trying to portray some points of minor principles(with no impact to the common man) as the "right" way to do things, not only are you losing your gained ground in the public's eye but you are also completely letting down the same public that has shown such confidence in you. And this too within just a few days of being voted to power.
Really, voices need to listen to REASON and not promote self styled useless "principles". Just shut up and stick together and stand together and deliver. Don't go about expressing displeasure about each other and promoting self styled higher ground principles. The public has seen a lot of such really absurd nonsense over the ages and doesn't need this especially at this time.

This is more than just removal of founders of AAP by a 'honesty-deficit' coterie of Kejriwal. For me as an NRI, AAP was the only hope for the betterment of the Country and it's future. But, the way corrupt politics and dishonesty has been introduced by some of the so called coterie of Kejriwal is very alarming and has made me very said. Very shameful episode. If the same things continues either Kejriwal should be kicked out, if not AAP will be kicked out of the political scenario of India.

Mr. Gandhi if we go by your account then PB and YY refused to leave their official PAC post but were willing to abstain from attending meetings so how is that their willingness to step down and resign? So it seems that the PAC had to move the motion for removing them. You say that PB threatened to call press conference to go against AK's selection of candidates and that shows they were trying to sabotage the party when it was fighting for survival during elections, so how do you justify PB's behavior. If this Delhi coterie and Arvind Kejri had not won by this landslide then AAP would have faded into oblivion , by bringing up all this difference in the open so sooon after winning you have harmed your own party. You guys should have waited to consolidate your win by letting the current govt work for a while.
As a layperson it seems that this fight is about the ambition of PB, YY to expand base to all India and Arvind's refusal to do so and since AK has majority he won. I feel that you guys should let the Delhi govt. do good work and do your expansion a bit later as you can show your Delhi report card . Currently you have only Delhi landslide to back you which actually is the handiwork of AK and his Delhi coterie and volunteers.

As an hard core party sympathiser I too want chip in my few words. First, as you guys always say, this is a party with a difference. One can not sit this party on a same bench as BJP or Congress. Therefore, you must also know that your followers or supporters not the same as congress or BJP has. We will question every wrong move and held you accountable for every wrong doing. People at the top leadership should not assume that it is their party. We, the people own the party. You are answerable to us. Many of us given our life savings, hard earned money, toiling for the party leaving well paid jobs. People at the top just cannot make mockery of us and play with our emotions.
Now coming to the issue of removing YY and PB. First of all if there were conflict, was it so difficult to reconcile? After all, all of us are fighting for the same cause. So how can such a big difference exists so that we cannot even sit together? There appears to be someone having some hidden agenda and great personal aspirations amongst us. I may be wrong but that is how it appears. Next Prashant Bhusan is right when he differed with candidates selection. We set out to pick out only the right candidates and that too through election by people from the constituency. Where did it go during this time election? Why candidates were hand picked? So was it a drama to begin with in the first time around? But than PB's going public against it too would have been a extreme negative step. My opinion about about candidates selection: This time around, I saw a different AK during election campaign. While speaking to media he was not the same AK who spoke with conviction and energy. His view was more calculated and formula based. The same skill he employed even in choosing candidates. I did not criticise it though then. I let it pass as after National election debacle, everyone seems to wrote AAP off and termed it as forgotten case. So, one time relaxation was needed to revive the party. Now after winning Delhi Election with record margin and making history, party leadership must assert its values. Work tirelessly to push the cause further. If there was anytime to rebuild and strengthen the party, time is now. Now the whole of the world has taken notice and inspiration from AAP's Delhi success. It appalled me to see the current churning and turn of party events. It feels really cheap and shameful.
Remember you guys at the top of organization: You have given people of this country hope, showed a dream and people have come out from all walks of life to support your ideas. It is your turn now to convert your ideas into reality. I have never seen such heart pouring support for any political party ever in India. I myself lost many friends while fighting for AAP's cause and support. If you stray from your ideals, values people will simply not forgive you. To lead AAP would be like riding in the back of a tiger without being eaten by it. So you guys must be watchful of your acts and move. My wish, still those differences could be settled between AK, YY and PB. I hope that happens soon. Jai Hind. I also wish Prashant Ji, Yogendra Ji and Arvind Ji all there read my comment. Best wishes.

Liked your blog very much. Am a blogger myself, though I now live in Canada and more concerned with local social issues relating to GMO and pesticide in Canadian agriculture.

I had been a donor to AAP earlier though, and remain a well wisher of India, and indirectly of AAP if it can help India.

Following up on your blog, I have a few questions, which are :

1) Does anyone know of the details of P/ Bhushan’s objection to candidate selection? Is there any list of names available of candidates that are now AAP MLA’s that might have had a chequered past? Are there other issues of funding disclosure or expense accounts? Where can the volunteers access them and check if AAP functions the way the volunteers expect them to?

2) According to the constitution of AAP, which is available to the public, NE seems to have no authority to “remove” members of the PAC. Please comment if my understanding is correct, and if so, is the ouster of YY/PB unconstitutional ?

3) According to the same constitution - PAC is to have 7 women, but has only 1, who voted against removal of YY/PB. Does the shortfall of 6 women make the decision of NE unconstitutional?

4) Do you still feel abstaining from the vote was the right thing to do?

I thank you again for the wonderful blog, and wish you the very best.

YOUR Reasoning to abstrain from voting was senseless brother...
"1. Arvind needs a smooth working in the PAC. So, I agreed that PB and YY may be out of PAC and take some alternate important roles."

Becasue,
It is not at all important that "Arvind works need to work smoothly" It is important that PAC should work collectively with honesty and transparency. YOU MUST HAVE VOTE!!!

The most important point is the "truth& transparency", not how much vote you got!! Winning an election/position in party were not our motto by giving our money, and trust to you guys..... It is Change in the politics we want to see...

I was a big supporter of AAP. Campaigned vigorously for AAP. My views on it,

a) Person should not hold party post and executive post

b) This is essentially a power struggle for supremacy in the party

c) AAP stood by inner party democracy, these events do not show any inner party democracy

d) AAP pursues different politics, these events demonstrate that it is similar to other parties.

e) Difference of opinion is going to be there in democracy. "I CAN NOT WORK WITH PB and YY" is my way or the highway approach.

I am saddened by these events. I won't campaign for AAP, what a waste of time.

AAP will have to pay a heavy price for this foolish action. It is proving that after all, every party in politics today is more or less the same ! And AAP is no different !!!

Mayank Bhai - The current crisis was a great opportunity to bring necessary reforms to the party structure and party processes consistent with our principles. The volunteers here in USA and elsewhere are shocked by the absence of dialog on issues, the lack of civility, and the ferocity of personal attacks on colleagues. Will AAP be a top down party with high command culture? Alternatively, will AAP be governed by elected core committees and forums? Will AAP build a party structure that supports democratic representation in decision making? Will National Executive meetings be run in an open manner with proper agenda and meeting minutes that are shared with the appropriate party leadership? Will there be a process to scrutinize large donations? Will women find representation in governance and senior party positions? Clearly, thousands of volunteers and supporters have worked selflessly for two long years to create a party that values inner democracy and open processes. Therefore, this was an opportunity for us to translate our assertions about openness into concrete measures. We need to remind ourselves that the current National Executive has highly distinguished members but it is not an elected body. It is a self-appointed body and therefore has limited legitimacy. National Executive must be re-constituted with open elections once its current term runs out. The end goal of Mission Vistaar has been to build leadership at the district levels and allow the district leadership to elect national leadership. We hope to see these reforms shortly. If the leadership is preoccupied with power consolidation and eliminating dissent, we will lose the opportunity to bring about structural changes within the party that are necessary to build and grow the organization. Also, as young men & women watch our leadership in action, one of the expectations is that they demonstrate decorum and follows proper norms of political discourse and problem resolution.

Fellow competitor is choked off by being made a sweet victim of his own demands.

A good leader should accept constructive criticism, use debate and dialogue to convince and take different opinions rather than those only in agreement. Having said that, selection of candidates on purely ideological grounds would have probably not won AAP so many seats ,resulting in a 5 year set back ( the best possible
candidates fielded had all lost the LS elections!). A compromise of this kind has probably been made for one time, as this was the last ditch effort at elections. Mr. Prashant Bhushan could have been convinced in this regard.
Also, when Professor Yadav was talking about expanding to other states( considering that AAP is becoming popular in these areas), denials were being issued that the party would confine itself to Delhi, indicating a lack of dialogue and mutual agreement. In any case, governance of Delhi and AAP's spread elsewhere need not be mutually exclusive. Professor Yadav has a strong team of volunteers in Haryana, and other stalwarts can handle more states.
Arvind Kejriwal is the main reason why so many of us have joined and contributed in many ways to a political party and it will do well if he takes everyone, especially those with ideological differences, along and prove himself to be a great leader . After all, anyone can take the easy way out by dispensing off with those who disagree! I have great faith and conviction in Arvind, admiration for Yogendraji and Prashantji and undying love for AAP. As Professor Yadav says, the party has weathered such crises before and will do so now. Cheers!

A party's establishment, growth, sudden fall-all only by Truth; Small is beautiful;AAP seems getting Delhi centric and very big challenge now to deliver to Delhi in the coming 5 years. Suggest focus on working in Maharashtra as team of Mission people . If AAP comes along OK; AAP must decentralise; If not sure there will be a big support as a regional party; Thanks to AK and thousands of people working for Truth in Indian Politics is becoming a dream come through. Aam Aadmi Party meaning is Janata Party; From independence most of the parties have been named with same meaning; What matters is Truth & Volunteers to work for Truth. Truth itself is Bliss. Mayankji, I wish you had been open to the trigger provided by Dogra of Indian Express. Indian Express has turned itself to a third rate tabloid by giving full front page billing to Dogra's story and that was the last straw on camel's back. The strange way Indian Express has handled AAP affair, smacks of some conspiracy to sow seeds of division with a view to destroy the APP party as a serious contender against both Congress and BJP. I wish all the seniors should have understood media games and kept their differences among themselves. After all, the way AAP is formed there are bound to be more than one or one dozen ideas even in the top councils. That could have been handled by more maturity and patience. Nothing is lost yet, if you all figure out, who must be beneficiary out of the travails of APP and who will fail, if the team rises about the ego and present itself as a united party to serve the nation and its people.

Meherzad.Mahesh said...

I am not a member of AAP however I appreciate your respect and recognition of the large number of volunteers and other members. Leaders like you, who operate from an ethical framework who talk about the party as a means for serving the nation and not an end, are reasons for hope.

I have been through similar situation in our organization. Visionary and super intelligent leaders like Kejriwalji in this case actually think in their minds that they know better how to take an organization to its goals (governance related result oriented goals like Delhi Governance). They start feeling so strongly about the direction they should take to achieve those goals, that they can see through much better than others how the other suggestions are wrong/weak. But when those suggestion makers come with stature of their own, then it becomes difficult for them to take the organization to the desired goal. Hence they do not see difference between working to fulfilling the goals of the organization to that of removing these obstacle creating voices, as the removal will much more easily fulfill the goals.

The problem is that these extra ordinary leaders fail to define the real goals in their minds, rather they start focusing on short term/limited goals. Hence they act likewise.

If Kejriwalji focuses on long term goals of India wide, then he would see that it can only happen by strong local leaders. Without diverse leaders where all can he go and do the same like Delhi. But these leaders have to be moulded patiently, engaged as per their abilities/desires and loved for what they are able to offer. Actually a real leader would be in the background, pushing his other leaders forward.

Small sightedness (Delhi) vs. long sightedness(India). Is there someone in AAP with that vision and abilities?

If the party expands to other states like Punjab etc and able to from a government, then who will ask /care these children Ashish, Pandey, Ashutosh, Sanjay singh etc of AK?
Also, AK cannot think of a situation that Delhi would be a municipal ward in front of a bigger state like Punjab and AK is a municipal councilor. This is the reason why this child caucus of AK is opposing (for AK) the expansion of party to other state.

Mayank has conveniently forgotten the fact that YY and PB were asked to resign. They DID NOT accept. Referring to party loyalists from Delhi as "Delhi team" is in very bad taste. I sincerely believe that it was a very democratic ouster.

But it is unfortunate that few people didn't like the cleanest politics what they talked about. We can understand the power game in politics but they could have done it in nice way instead of this shame. I will think twice before I make my next donation to this party, if it is going to AK's party instead of AAP. One question remains, why didn't you and Kumar Viswas vote? That could have saved the them.

dear mayank, have been hearing the news about AAP and heard about your blog and wanted you to know what some of us who think is happening to your party.
we have been not only avid followers of AAP but are wellwishers too .
1]Delhi victory has not gone down too well with a lot of people and as the delhi government began to slowly perform promises which a lot media and invited panelist had passed off as an impossibility,it started ringing alarm bells in many quarters...result -they started looking for chink in your armour, some of the so called rebel leaders and those who saw the possibility of their being sidelined by a well performing government group fell prey to many who have wanted to see AAP fail.
2] media has hounded kejriwal for sometime and his banning them from the secretariat did not go too well...he has got the brickbats of being called a paltu and has taken it in his stride ...perhaphs the democratic ways of making certain decisions like going national when after having said no ...all these have been added up to malign your leader.yogendra yaday is a respected academician but one cant deny that he is politically ambitious...whatever one says about private conversations being recorded ...to invite journalist for breakfast and talking to them cant all be in innocence, perhaphs the rajya sabha seat from delhi could be a good idea to keep the balance going.
3] we don't want AAP to fail...we want to believe yogendra yadav when he says he wants the AAP ,the hopes pinned on it to be alive and we are watching to see ...his actions in the coming years will test his character.
4] if the dream of AAP is to survive, let the Delhi government work...without the tension of having to pacify factions who feel left out.Let it deliver...patience is the word...it will in the long run pay off .
And as for kejriwal being a supremo,to perform you need a leader...when too many leaders emerge anarchy follows,in time if delhi delivers...yogendra yadav will have a chance in some other state to lead...but to lead one must also know how to follow,be a disciplined karykarta of the party as he puts it .however, having said that he should stick to the rules of the game and not vent out his sorrows subtly in the media....As it appears ,the media seems to have found an able ally in him to seek to demoralise AAPIANS...dream big and dont let the people down...

I am again a anonymous donor of the party and have donated in all election till now. I have never donated for any political party and i thought this is the party with difference but it seems i am wrong. Ak has always said that its the volunteers party but then when all the NRI's chapter sent a note that they are opposed to this decision then how come NE take this decision. AK is a leader and he should be able to work with people who oppose them. If AK is unable to resolve this and bring them back i doubt he will get the support that he need next time. Many people from outside Delhi supported the party in a hope that it will expand slowly and they can see a better politics in their constituencies and their life will improve. I hope sense prevails in AAP

To save AAP from destroying its own foundation, I suggest that members of AAP insist that it:

1) Publicly apologizes to Yadav and Bhushan
2) Brings them back into PAC
3) Institute several internal Lokpal first to deal with complaints raised by these two about possible non-conformance with its constitution, and following up with complaints if any against them.
4) Address all internal Lokpal's before deciding the status of YY/PB or other members, tainted MLAs etc.
5) Make sure accounts of donations and expenses are strictly according to its guidelines.
6) Try to win back public trust.
7) Proceed with service to the nation.

Till date Arvind Kejriwal's achievement has only been promises. All his claims are either unsubstantiated or false. We do not give any credit to him for giving subsidies on power or water. Jayalalita or DMK can any day out do him. Even Congress had given pretty effective MNREGA and other schemes that were just transferring money from the tax payer, sale proceeds of Indian assets (Disinvestments) or sale of natural assets to such schemes.

Arvind came forward as a radical leader with credentials such as an IITian and an IRS officer. Please let us know where he has proved any of his these credentials? His claim of eliminating corruption in 49 days is also a claim that cannot be validated or measured. All is just hearsay or assumptions.

We expect some practical and measurable deliveries from a perform from IIT Kharagpur who is also an IRS officer. But where is that sensible talk backed with solid paperwork. Everything is open ended. Power tariff will fall after CAG audit, an assumption. We will give Wifi - Sisodia says it will be of very low bandwidth, very small amount per day and then all sites like facebook, twitter etc. will be blocked. Then what will it be used for, checking mail headers? They say that it will be used for tracking girls in danger. But that is not what was declared before elections. Then it was just FREE WIFI!!! and now the real details.

Then comes the CCTVs. AK said he will place 1,50,000 CCTVs and said that "wifi CCTVs are available at Nehru Place for Rs. 2,500/- hence the amount will be 1,50,000 x 2500 only. Now that is absurd. It is really an Ex IIT guy speaking??? An ex IRS officer (he claims to be a Commissioner when he was a much lower ranked officer). Any one can work on the CCTV model and get to know that all the backend wifi equipment, monitoring equipment, data storage equipment, Data Center, furniture, people to work on the monitors etc. will cost many multiples of the amount AK speaks about. He speaks like a zombie and an illiterate person.

We can go on and on with specifics but should the specifics be coming from us from the IITian whose face and promises got 67 of the 70 seats.

But Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, do not worry. With the kind of attitude you are working you will not last months - let alone the full term. And as for the Prime Ministership - forget it.

Hitler had the Luftwaffe (Air Force), an experienced and hardened Wehrmacht (Army), best Scientists, a dedicated cadre of Hitlerjugend (Hitler Youth) and he was the unchallenged leader of a very powerful nation. When even someone very powerful like Hitler start targeting his disliked people (Jews) and was able to kill millions of them, ultimately he got decimated and the Jews got their own country and are now one of the most powerful nations - Israel. Mr. AK, you may have used the Blitzkrieg (Lightning War) effectively and got 67 out of 70, but you are very vulnerable. Start working for those who voted for you. Start working on specifics and also start sharing the details. Be open to criticism and suggestions.

Remember you are not even a fraction as powerful as Hitler, and he got decimated. Remember the JP movement conquered India but got decimated. Remember history always repeats itself.

Grow up and start working. Ensure all meetings are properly minuted and all Minutes of Meetings are populated on your site with 24 hours. Ensure the Government works effectively and transparently. Do not be lured by big cars and big bungalows. We can see through all that. When we see Manish Sisodia ask for a 7 bedroom, two lawns bungalow from the Central Government, we know that he has not earned it. We know that he should continue living in his LIG flat and not in the bungalow.

Else you can be assured that the day is not far that the slaps will come back and this time they will be many more and much more frequent. People can forgive you once but that is all.

A Genuine Aam Aadmi.

I have never seen any party had humble talented spokes person like YY. I believe his ideas and interviews in media for past few months had major positive impact on winning the elections. I deeply regret that AK is moving out of AAP's core ideology. Thank you Mayank for sharing.

Mayank, Thank you for sharing the deatils...What still haunts me is the fact that YY and PB being aware that dubious candidates were being selected did not speak at the time. They wanted to wait and watch. AK speaks like doodh se dhula hoon mein. And he is nowhere to be seen now....I feel sorry for the Aam janta of Delhi

I was almost sure that the lures and traps of power and the resultant decay would creep into AAP too.

But I am shocked to know that it has happened so soon!

I am 41 and never have voted in any of the elections, except in the 2014 elections. I voted for the AAP candidate knowing fully well that he would never win. But it was vote for change and hope.
Now I feel completely let down by AAP.
One of the reasons why I had some hope in AAP was the presence of people like PB and YY.
Now I have decided never to vote again in any of the elections. I simply don't have any faith in the plutocracy called Indian democracy.
Goodbye AAP!

...just watch Manish Shishodia, the remote controlled `Robot Minister' of Delhi with so many ministry in his pocket. If such `Yes Minister' (jo-hoozor) style-of-work find space in APP governance, it is better AAP-11 should merge with any one of these supremo-led parties; options: Didi, Navin, Mulayem, Amma, Laloo, Madam, Power, Mahanta, Moody, Ajmal, Farook, Nitish etc. Manish must be shown door of AAP if he fails to explain the volunteers why he had brought such fatal resolution in PAC even though YY & PB were willing to allow AK work solitary in future PAC meetings...YY & PB must be inducted to PAC with proper dignity to make AAP a vibrant, non-Supremo style, democratic and volunteer-based party...
